Athlete of the Week - Mark Hendrickson

One of our Calgary Freeriderz athletes, Mark Hendrickson, has won the title of "CTV's Athlete of the week" for outstanding performance and athletic ability.

The segment will be airing on January 20,2012  CTV news, channel 3 between 6:30-7:00 pm (set your PVR's)

Coach Mike was also interviewed and coach Brent (403 media) shot most of the video being used.

Canadian Series Halfpipe & Slopestyle

The weekend of Jan 6-8 saw 6 of our Freeriderz athletes compete in the Canadian Series Halfpipe and Slopestyle events at Canada Olympic Park. Despite the high winds all of our athletes did extremely well, some of them competing for the first time in the sport.

Only one of our athletes, Mark Hendrickson competed on Saturday in the Halfpipe event, making it to the finals where he placed 5th. It was great to see some of our athletes and parents there to cheer him on.

Sunday, our athletes competed in 3 heats, all placing respectively. Again thanks to the athletes, parents and families who came out to show their support and cheer on our boys.  Thanks to coach Mike for the extra time spent training our boys for this event over the Christmas holidays and to coach Brent Callow, 403 Media, who spend both days filming the athletes runs. Also a big thank you to all the parent volunteers, judges and officials who made this event so successful. These events would not happen with out your dedication and support.

Alberta Winter Games Qualifiers

Alberta Winter Games Qualifiers was held at Mt. Norquay on December 17-18.  Calgary Freeriderz were represented by eight athletes: Brayden, Matt, Colin, Jarred, Dorian, Michael, Reid and Ewan. 

Saturday was the Slopestyle competition.  Some amazing runs and epic tricks by the Freeriderz!  Brayden finished 1st and Matt finished 2nd in their age category.  Colin finished 2nd in his age category and 7th overall. Reid also had an impressive run, finishing 8th in his category.

Sunday was moguls.  It was snowing hard all night and during the day, which made for some interesting conditions on the mogul pitch.  Once again, Freeriderz did amazing! Brayden, Matt and Reid made finals. Michael, Jarred, Dorian, Colin were on the bubble. Colin had one of the fastest times of the day. Brayden 7th, Matt 11th, Reid 14th overall in the Moguls! Brayden was first overall combined Slopestyle and Moguls.  

A pretty impressive day overall!  Thanks to Coach Mike for all the extra training and support for the athletes to get them ready for AWG Qualifiers.

Heavy Metal Rail Jam

Saturday, December 17, nine of our Calgary Freeriderz athletes competed in the Heavy Metal Rail Jam at Lake Louise. It was the first competition of the season for our boys and they had no trouble showing off their skills in the park. 

Congratulations to Cameron Duncan, Brody Quast and Ben Pollock who made it to the final round in the over 16 mens category and to Mark Hendrickson who placed first in the under 16 mens.
